Traffic Safety Research Center Opens in Beijing
AB Volvo, one of five partners involved in the China Sweden Research Centre for Traffic Safety, said pilot projects already are under way.
The China Sweden Research Centre for Traffic Safety officially opened in Beijing in mid-December, but pilot projects aimed at improving road safety in both Sweden and in China already are under way, including some studying accidents in China involving trucks and buses. The center also aims to boost the exchange of technology and expertise between the two countries and to support the two governments' decisions on issues relating to traffic safety.
"With safety as one of our core values, the Volvo Group has long experience of working with traffic safety issues. China is a vital market, and one of the benefits of this cooperation is that we gain better insight into its traffic situation at the same time as we can build up valuable experience through hands-on work together with Chinese universities, research institutes, and public authorities," said Jan-Eric Sundgren, executive vice president of Public & Environmental Affairs at the Volvo Group. AB Volvo is one of five partners involved in the center, according to the company's news release.
"The fact that both governments want to bring Volvo on board in this process is clear evidence of the group's leading role in vehicle and traffic safety," he added.
The other partners are Volvo Car Group, Chalmers University of Technology, the Chinese Ministry of Transport's Research Institute of Highways, and Tongji University.
